Busy times
It has been about a month since I have blogged and I apologize. It has been so hectic. We have been working like crazy on our house...we built a 10 by 22 roof for a patio. Then we put down pavers for patio...I did lol. We are getting our house painted end of this week. Then Saturday is our towns Mayer Daze. There is a parade and vendors and a fun time and afterwards I always host a BBQ at our house. My son, 10, is going thru the process of dealing with a hernia. Kinda young I know but he will need surgery and we are going thru the steps for that. School is three weeks til done! So needless to say there are things going on daily and nightly. Just wanted to say hello to all and say I have missed sewing and will be doing it soon.

Finished gift....
This is a beautiful wall quilt I finally finished today for our friends who were in the navy...notice the fabric. All the fabrics used are military fabrics but the borders and binding are done in Navy fabric. I incorporated three different photos printed on fabric to quilt. Let me know your thoughts. I love the finished product. Will make a great gift for our friends.

Darlene's mystery quilt step 2 completed
I was really getting frustrated with part two which is not like me. The measurements were not coming out right and I had to make some adjustments but it is done. Thank goodness I had some wet spots in the picture on the fabric from ironing. It is just water me dried fine. It looked like stains but I assure it is not.

Matching placemats and table runner
I just finished these placemats today. I used remnant coffee fabrics that were left over from the table runner I made 2 weeks ago. Then I used a meander stitch on them all...very time consuming but they turned out awesome.

Potato bags
This is the most awesome pattern and the only trick when using them is dont poke holes in your potatoes when using them. Check out Sew Cindy on blogger for her photos
Microwave Baked Potato Bag
Supply List - makes TWO bags from 45” wide fabric
1/3 yd 100% cotton focus fabric
1/3 yd 100% cotton lining fabric
1/3 yd 45” wide 100% cotton batting
100% cotton thread to match focus fabric
Assembly:
From each of the 1/3 yard cuts of focus, lining and batting, cut ONE 10” width-of-fabric (WOF) strip. Remove selvages.
From each strip cut two 10” x 22” pieces. If any of your fabrics are less than 44” wide, then cut strip evenly in half and use that length instead of 22” for the remaining pieces.
Each bag will use ONE 10” x 22” piece of focus, lining and batting. The following instructions are to make one bag.
Layer batting, lining right side up and focus fabric right side down (lining and focus should have right sides together).
With 1/4” seam allowance, sew the two short ends. Be certain to catch all three layers in your seam allowance.
Thru one of the long open sides, turn right side out so that the focus fabric and lining fabric are out and batting is between.
With matching thread, top stitch along seam line next to seam allowances, about 1/2” from edge.
Place on table with focus fabric side up. Fold one of the short ends down about 3”.
Fold the remaining end to overlap the edge of the previous fold by about 1/2”. Edge of short fold is on underneath edge of long fold.
Stitch along long sides with 1/4” seam allowance. Be certain to catch all six layers in your seam allowance.
Sew with 1⁄4” seam allowance
Topstitch 1⁄2” from edge
3”
An online tutorial is available at http://jdqltr.blogspot.com/ then click on the tab Tutorials.
To use your bag: wash and dry potatoes, DO NOT PIERCE. Place potatoes in bag and place bag in microwave. Microwave per microwave manufacturer instructions. DO NOT OVERCOOK. This bag will hold from one to four potatoes. This is a great way to cook sweet potatoes.
Zigzag seam allowances to avoid raveling.
Turn right sides out.
Your Potato Bag is done! You are ready to make the second bag! 1⁄2”

Help my daughter please
My daughter, who is nearly nine,is a little genius. She likes to create webpages and if you have Facebook please search for this "Enjoy the little things in life" and LIKE her page. She really puts In a lot of hours and I just want to make her happy by having people like her pages. She is a wiz on a computer. Can put most adults to shame. Kind of crazy because I also have a son who is 10 and they are BOTH in fourth grade..she skipped second. They actually wanted to skip her two grades she is such a smartie but with her age my husband and I decided one grade would be more than enough. Love her.
